As the wave of ‘Strictly Coming Dancing’ fever takes the country by hold this Autumn, World Jungle is supporting the BBC’s national ‘Get Inspired’ campaign – encouraging people to get active and get dancing. Look out for a wide variety of dance/fitness classes each day of the week at venues across the area, together with special workshops lead by guest teachers bringing new dance forms to experience. Jane Manning from World Jungle explains:
“There are so many good reasons to get dancing – It’s a fun, social way of keeping fit, great for both your physical health and mental wellbeing. What’s more, regardless of age, experience or ability, anyone can dance. We were delighted that over 50 people attended our ‘Fitsteps’ taster workshop at the Chantry Centre earlier this month to launch the project and are looking forward to some more great workshops coming up.”
A series of special ‘one-off’ workshops lead by guest teachers have been planned to encourage people to try something new. This includes a fabulous ‘Ribbon Dance Workshop’ on Saturday 18 October from 11am-12.30 in the Chantry Centre, Dursley, lead by renowned Dance Teacher Claire Phipps from ‘Flaming Feathers’ in Bristol whose previous workshops held in the town proved incredibly popular. Claire said:
“I am delighted to have been invited back to Dursley and hope to see some familiar faces and lots of new people too! This year I have decided to introduce Ribbon Dance, a unique form of movement which combines the elegance and grace of Chinese ribbon work with rhythmic gymnastics. It is a beautiful form of dance, accessible to all ages and abilities and I look forward to a great session.”
Due to limited spaces, booking in advance is essential for this workshop with tickets £10 available from the World Jungle website (www.worldjunge.org.uk) or by contacting Jane Manning on 07878 865297.
Throughout the Autumn World Jungle will be running regular classes each day of the week in a variety of dance and fitness styles including Zumba, Zumba Gold, Fitsteps, Dance Fit, Pilates and Bellydance. Classes have been organised both during the daytime and evening, taking place at venues across Cam and Dursley, together with the surrounding villages of Frampton, Slimbridge, Uley and North Nibley.
