A lovely ending from the ‘Story Castle’

As the end of term approaches, so too do we enter the last phase of our ‘Bounce’ personal development and challenge programme at Cam Woodfields Junior School in Gloucestershire.

The final group of twelve young people are near to completing  their outdoors project of designing and building a play feature for the grounds of their school, organised by local community organisation World Jungle, working alongside Tom Williams, Director of “Everyday a New Adventure”.

The activity was designed to help the participants develop confidence, respect, and fairness, while raising aspirations and improving their capacity to manage stress.  Ben Ward  from World Jungle who has managed the project said:

“The ideas and commitment from the children have been incredible.  They have worked together to create a Story Castle – a wonderful fort-like structure with a story chair at its centre.  A truly wonderful space which can be used for dancing, drama, story telling and imaginative play.”

This project was made possible with funding from People’s Health Trust using money raised by HealthTotal through The Health Lottery.

BOUNCE is a 10-week, personal development and challenge programme which we began at the end of 2013. Over a two year period we have helped over 60 children by running fun and interactive courses focused on managing conflict and developing emotional intelligence and resilience. Ben continues:

“This innovative and creative programme aims to equip the  children with the skills to help deal with conflict both in the home environment and amongst their peers.  It is wonderful to see how the children grow over the course of the weeks, gaining in confidence and managing to deal with situations in a much more constructive and positive way.”
