Work has just started on a new project being launched in Spring 2016 to inspire more people in Cirencester to “Get Active, Get Outdoors and Get Healthy!”

‘Spring in to Action’ will work to raise the awareness of opportunities for health and fitness in the area,  establish a strategic approach to the provision of sports and physical activity across the town and also aim to particularly attract more people who are not currently engaged in sport and physical activities.

An exciting launch event will take place in the town on Saturday 2nd April, followed by a week of special events, taster workshops and promotions at venues across the area.  The focus of the project will be on inclusion, with the aim of attracting all ages and abilities, whilst promoting a broad range of activities to capture all interest areas.

Organisers hope to pull together sporting providers, local clubs, groups, organisations and venues as well as promoting the town’s parks, outdoor spaces and the wonderful natural environment on our doorstep.

The project is being delivered by health and community organisation World Jungle in partnership with Cirencester Town Council and support from Gloucestershire County Council ’s ‘Active Together’ fund.  Ben Ward, Director of World Jungle said:

“We are delighted to be back working in Cirencester on this project having been involved in delivering the successful  holiday activity programme (Summer off the Streets) for children and families across the Cotswolds for the last 5 years.

‘Spring in to Actionis about creating healthier communities.   The benefit of taking part in more sports and physical activities goes far beyond just improving our physical health.  It is important to our mental well-being too and is also a fantastic tool for bringing people and communities together.

Activities planned for the week will be diverse and range from traditional sports, football, rugby and cricket to pilates, martial arts and yoga; walking, swimming and cycling, to Tea Dances and Zumba marathons.  Our aim is to not only promote the opportunities available in the town but also to open people’s minds to new possibilities and encourage them to try something new.”

Organisers are also keen to hear from local groups and clubs in the area and would encourage as many as possible to get involved in this project as a way to help promote what they offer and attract new members and volunteers.  Ben Ward continues:

“We believe ‘Spring in to Action’ can also support local clubs and groups to attract new members and volunteers and would encourage them to get involved in the project.   We also hope to encourage people thinking about setting up new classes or starting out in health and fitness to consider trialling their new venture during this week where they will be supported by widespread marketing.”

Look out for more details of this project coming soon.  If you belong to a club or group that would like to be involved, please contact Ben Ward on 07889 512644, email info@worldjungle.org.uk or visit www.worldjungle.org.uk .
